Haptic wireless platform for medical experiments

Situation

Our client, a laboratory active in neuroscience, needed a device to experiment haptic sensation on patients. Their current solution was wired and allowed the medical staff to use only six actuators.

Approach

We came up with a custom embedded solution managing up to twelve motors wirelessly. Using new IoT technology, we were able to bring three key features:

First it allowed us to keep the layout very compact, which was greatly appreciated as the module would be worn directly by patients.

Secondly, through the development of an API, we integrated the solution in their existing system with few changes.

Finally, low power consumption management allowed to increase battery lifespan and increase life cycle of the device.

Results

This solution allowed our client to increase the length of experiments to up to 50% and therefore produce more useful results.
